Board of Directors 2007-2008
The Board acts as the executive arm of the choir's organization, working to support the Artistic Director's vision and ensuring the long-term viability of the organization.
Johnathon Atwood, Acting President
Johnathon is a founding member of The Choral Project and has served on the Board of Directors since 1999. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Organization and Management from San Jose State University. Past experience includes Human Resource Management with NASA - Ames Research Center and Operations Management with Lifeguard and United Healthgroup. He has been singing all of his life in various performing ensembles. In high school, he took first place in a State solo competition achieving the highest possible score. He also performed in many state choir ensembles in California, Utah, and Colorado. Johnathon has traveled all over the world, including Australia, Mexico and Costa Rica and many parts of Europe performing with the San Jose State Choraliers, The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus and, of course, The Choral Project.
In addition to singing, Johnathon plays the oboe, clarinet and piano. He studied Music at Foothill College then switched to a degree in Business Management when he moved to San Jose. In his spare time, Johnathon likes to watch movies and is currently writing an album of his own.

Daniel Hughes, Founder
Daniel Hughes, Artistic Director and Conductor of The Choral Project, is in constant demand as a conductor, accompanist, coach and choral clinician in the Bay Area. Under his direction, The Choral Project has begun to receive international recognition. The ensemble has recorded four compact discs, most recently a recording on the Clarion label featuring of the music of Eric Whitacre as well as selections by Lauridsen, Clausen, Tavener and others. Hughes has been a clinician and/or adjudicator for many choral festivals and conventions, directing sessions in Vocal Pedagogy and Conducting Technique for the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the California Music Educators Association and GALA Choruses, as well as conducting honor choirs for ACDA.
Hughes has extensive training in piano and voice and holds a Master of Arts degree in Conducting from San José State University. He is the recipient of numerous awards and currently serves as the Repertoire & Standards Chair for Community Choirs for the Western Division of the ACDA.

Norman Finnance, Member-At-Large
Norman was introduced to The Choral Project by his life partner, a former coworker of a choral member. As a board member he brings many years of experience with volunteer organizations. He sits on the boards of the Preservation Action Council of San Jose and the Victorian Preservation Association of Santa Clara Valley.
Norman practiced as a Physician Associate for 25 years. At midlife, he took a huge turn and created Restoration True, a business that assists property owners with old house restoration. He has also been fortunate to share a product of his avocation, his Victorian home and carriage house with several members of The Choral Project.
Suzanne Butler, Member-At-Large
Suzanne began her musical studies in both classical and jazz voice at the School for Music Vocations in Creston, IA. In 1999, Ms. Butler relocated to the Bay Area and attended San Jose State University where she studied voice with Prof. Joseph Frank, performed with the SJSU Concert Choir and Opera Theatre as well as the world famous SJSU Choraliers. Suzanne earned a Bachelor of Arts (Music/Voice) and a German minor from San Jose State University. She currently sings Soprano II with Choral Project.
As a member of the musical community, Ms. Butler has not only performed, but also worked actively in Arts Administration. She currently holds a position at the Center of Performing Arts at Santa Clara University and is earning an M.A. in Educational Administration with an emphasis in Higher Education.
