How did you get started in choral singing?

I am one of seven siblings and our family would sing on long trips, at camps, and in small Baptist churches where my father was the pastor and my family was often the choir. My high school in Fair Oaks, near Sacramento, had an excellent reputation and I joined the concert choir, madrigal group, jazz choir, and also got involved in the musical theater program.

Were you a music major in college?

Singing was pretty much all I did in college as I sang with Perla Warren's chamber group at American River College in Sacramento, and later in choirs at Canada and Foothill colleges where I met Daniel Hughes. During this time I served with the U.S. Marine Corps’ 4th Force Recon Reserve outside of Reno, Nevada, where I was trained in special operations.

As an original member of The Choral Project, how did you hear about its formation?

Daniel recently reminded me that I that I had said if he were ever to form his own group I wanted to be a part of it, so I take some credit in the group's founding.

Were you nervous? Was the audition what you expected it to be?

Yes. The voice is such a personal instrument and you are putting who you are out there every time you sing.

What is your favorite thing about singing with TCP?
To me it is the passion, excellence, vision, expertise, and the deliberate selection of music programming that begins with our artistic director, Daniel Hughes, and is lived out through the leadership and every member of the Choral Project that provides an opportunity to heal and transform not only those who hear us, but also each of us who perform this amazing music.

Has The Choral Project met your expectations?
Every new season brings new challenges and the potential to learn and grow as a performer.

What hobbies do you have, or what do you like to do when you're not singing?
I enjoy reading and focus primarily on non-fiction. I have collected postcards for many years and enjoy and learn from the images and text that reflect the history and evolution of culture, design, people, and places.

What is a fun or interesting fact that others might not know about you?
I have a one-year old grand daughter named Kennedy.
